t'Other

In 2016, RET Manchester, gave us seed funding to create a show that was a response to events that were happening in the news. We spent 5 days in their music room and came up with a scratch performance of an adult fairy tale -  't'Other'.  We further developed the scratch performance into a full length play for adult audiences, with funding from ACE and we toured to community venues and small spaces in Lancashire and Yorkshire.

The show was a collaboration between choir leader and sound designer Loz Kaye, sculptor and visual artist Marjan Wouda and other members of Beggars Belief. It was dark and funny with beautiful artwork, a masked character, original music and gorgeous imagery. We developed a style of old school scenic painting presented on a rolling overhead projector, this was really effective and cut down on waste. We worked with community choirs in each town to develop a surprise ending where members of the audience seemed to spontaneously stand up and begin singing.
